The FBI’s Richmond, Virginia, and Charlotte, North Carolina, Field Offices are assisting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia with the search for Michael Timothy Puckett. Puckett is wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy and the shooting of a second deputy at a residence in Cana, Virginia, on May 29, 2026. Upon arrival at the residence for a welfare check requested by a family member, the two deputies made contact with Michael Timothy Puckett, who allegedly opened fire on the responding deputies. Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. On May 30, 2026, Puckett was charged with Aggravated Murder: Law Enforcement in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Carroll County General District Court, Criminal, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the location and capture of Michael Timothy Puckett.
